The headline on this post is misleading, currently there are NO PLANS to cover LIC yard. This is simply an idea by some real estate company. That will most likely never happen.

Yeah but this isnt those other RR’s.its no secret that qualifying on the LIRR is much more rigorous than other RR’s. Also, we don’t “partially” qualify on branches in ZONE C, it’s all or nothing here. that’s a lot to cover just to run one train from KO to NYK. we don’t use NORAC or GCOR or whatever ...
What about the crew staffing issues? Amtrak crews are not qualified on Zone C (LIRR) having them qualify on Zone C with the LIRR rules examiners is a non starter (Qualifying on the LIRR is a MUCH different process than qualifying on Amtrak, i dont see any amtrak crews willing to go through that nigh...
Couldn’t they just replace all that and just make it compatible?
Without getting political, this illustrates how decisions are managed in a government-run organization. Plans, dreams, improvement ideas, economies change with the wind, political appointments or with the election cycle. The lack of a contiguous management and management plan that transcends admini...
The LIRR isn't planning on one person train operation. They are considering changing the train service position whereas the asst. conductor is more like a collector. Phase one is for the asst. collector to report to the first station stop of the train and not in the yard. There will be general noti...

Your telling me, reading through this thread now 7 years later, almost everything people claimed would happen turned out to be totally wrong. Even about all the so called back room deals, no extra money for using the OBTIMS, needing less trainmen etc.. the list goes on for awhile. Lol
All this worrying for nothing lol
How does WSY differ from say Long Beach Yard? Or Hempstead, Far Rockaway, Montauk, West Hempstead or Port Washington yards? (All are yards with passenger platforms)
Brooklyn has its own share of problems. But yes much less than penn.
Unfortunately ESA will still have to deal with Amtrak issues in Harold interlocking,
But they are doing a lot of work there so hopefully it will function better in the future.
Train #3 and #6001 both lost their lynbrook stop for some reason.
I believe the crossing gate system also provides notice of a broken rail. If There is an interruption in the circuit near a crossing the gates are activated, if the dispatcher notices a crossing activated without a train nearby that could be an indication of a problem. I've noticed a few broken rail...
I was surprised that after the Hoboken accident that the LIRR didn't implement the same rule Change they did about having a cndr up front when coming into the block. Or that the FRA didn't require it. But who can blame them, the past few years have been all about keeping people out of the cab "...
