Once again as I have mentioned before cafe service was close to returning to all Empire service trains. Like spring of 2020 close. Amtrak was busily cleaning and preparing the commissary in the ALB station. The only thing that had yet to happen was the official job bids hiring. COVID killed that an...

Wouldn't that mean that, eventually, the Earle railroad, and even Earle as a whole, will probably become obsolete? I hope not but the single tracking (at least via severing one track at several grade crossings - wouldn't be too hard to restore at this point) seems ominous. I just remember my time a...

I believe they are. First Metroliners rolled out in 1967, revenue service began in 1969.

Alas, didn't take long to crash test one. Looks like the removable plastic/fiberglass nose was a good idea. Hope the engineer is doing okay.

What's "Phase 2" going to be? Double tracking in some places? New sidings?
Or reconnecting Farmingdale with Freehold?

It seems to me the one useful thing they could have done is connect LA to Bakersfield with a new passenger right of way, either extending the diesel powered San Joaquin to LA or having a connection between a high speed train and the San Joaquin service. Now it looks like whatever we end up with, it ...

Surprised no one has yet taken a photo of an Avielia X-ing the Genessee River in Letchworth State Park on that bridge that cost Topper "a few oats" to rebuild. That ERIE line became EL's only access to Buffalo after the DL&W line through Dansville and Mt. Morris (route of the Phoebe S...

What's interesting is the cafe section. I'm not sure if there'll be a grill or it will be all airline food. Comparable to the existing Acela cafe menu I would imagine - microwaved burgers and such but no grill. First class has its own food prep area for heating its meals - again, no grill, more lik...

Opinion: Amtrak Must Restore Adirondack Service Now! I'm not sure how endangered this line is, but I get the feeling that things aren't lining up for service restoration. At what point does having NY to Montreal on the map become false advertising, sort of like the "suspended" Sunset Limi...

Too bad Richmond Broad St Station saw its last Amtrak train service in '75, the year I was born! It is beautiful in its current role as the Science Museum of Virginia, but aside from this rare appearance back circa 2000, it hasn't hosted any passenger trains since then.

Externally they are identical. Internally probably nearly so except for whatever hardware is required to make them compatible for NEC voltages and signaling systems, etc.
