 by Railjunkie ¦  Sat Apr 06, 2024 9:09 am ¦  Forum: Amtrak ¦  Topic: Amtrak NEC/Earthquake ¦  Replies: 17 ¦  Views: 1640

Today was my first experience with an earthquake and I can confidently say I am not a fan. My wife said she got rocked pretty good at the plaza in Albany. Railjunkie, were you working the yard this morning? On vacation this week. I was driving home after dropping my wife and son off at the station ...

At least two things going on that will affect Penn capacity, though neither are related to Empire service: https://www.amtrak.com/pennstationaccess https://www.amtrak.com/about-amtrak/new-era/infrastructure-projects/east-river-tunnel-rehabilitation-project.html As I have reported previously sometim...

Not much info in the report, but I just saw there's been another trespasser strike... https://wnyt.com/top-stories/man-hit-killed-by-train-in-albany/ Fair Use (Basically the whole report...) A man was hit and killed by a train in Albany on Wednesday night. The incident happened just before 6 p.m. i...

Lets try this again where there are currently engine changes, DC, Harrisburg, my own crew base ALB/Renn just to name a few. They are also crew change points and as long as we are on that lets add NYP, Philly, NHV with the last few depending on how the jobs are written. The Airo sets are going to sav...

It seems unlikely that there is even demand on every train during the day , yet they all are the same consist. The question is wether the cost of changing consist lenght is worth the extra ticket revenue that a longer consist would bring , or the savings in running costs of running a shorter consis...

Lets connect this all back to the Airo, shall we? Amtrak going push-pull on the NEC is going to save time in turning trains around. Yes, it'll haul another engine or a cab unit, but having not to wye trains in two Virginia stations, DC, NYC, and Boston is going to "turn" trains faster, el...

It pays me for an hours work and leaves some crumbs on the table. Its not the $70.00 for the ticket that's the issue it should be the fact that Amtrak refuses to add a coach to a train that consistently sells out. However why should they if they can get a premium price for the seat AND the public i...

Do you know that Amtrak has the freedom to add coaches to every train, and doesn't have limitations like platform length, yard facility / overnight storage space, or budget that doesn't constrain the total length of some trains? Regarding that last one , it's highly likely that most Amtrak trains, ...

Still, conductor is law on the train... and from what I see of RailJunkie, points to more of the engineer trying to put his own "front facing" camera in the cab. From Holiday Inn, Akron West--- It is possible that this CSX Engineer placed his own camera in the engine is that he wanted HIS...

Must be why we have sold out trains all the time, because of that crappy service. Good Lord this is such a false equivalency. As if restricted coaching stock and artificially low prices don't affect that. News to me that paying $70 for a one-hour train ride is "low", but what do I know. I...

Guess someone found a pot of gold. Tree clearing began on the north side of the bridge Tuesday. A couple of acres near the wye and towards Troy. Looks like some folks in Rennselaer are about to have a river front view.

Back at it today and since it had been a couple of days I need to sync my I-Pad. Less I get a visit from the I-Pad police. I haven't heard anything through the telegraph, telephone, tell a railroader, system so I'm thinking somebody got caught doing something stupid while on duty.

Abacab?

They already have a "Genesis". Maybe it's time for an "Abacab".

I'll see myself out.
Be sure to tip your waitress, thanks for coming. :-D

Two forward facing cameras in the cab along with two microphones. Cameras are pretty much always on, they see everything and hear everything. The only way it happens is if both cameras are not working, highly doubtful. The tape don't lie if someone did sneak on, "Smile your on Candid Camera.&qu...

Trains Magazine has an article on the increased service (but admit don't have all the details yet) That said, it's actually refreshing to see not just an upgrade in service, but a noticeable one! Now, it would be nice if the Empire Service could add a trip or two. For example there's still a gap be...
