• Rigby DOES seem to have far less cars/power.

IF you look closely, and know what to look for, there are small decals/signs, on some of Guilford's BIGGER trucks and front end loaders etc. that show they ARE leased-or maybe WERE owned by a leasing company, and GRS bought them-cheap!!???

Not saying ALL-but much of former leased equipment, as well as rent a cars and rent a trucks- did not get the best "operators" or "preventative
maintaining". Worked part time for Hertz, for a number of years, and we were one of the better companies as far as keeping our cars, truck and equipment up!

At least Rigby's parking lot has FAR fewerGRS vehicles with flat/missing tires, than about 5 years ago! One of the workers told Larry Hawkes(editor/publisher of the former Atlantic States Limited) and me that NO tire company would extend any more credit to GRS!

Not sure what their long term plans are for Rigby, but it doesn't look good. Maybe they are still sore over the employees that were fired for stealing time, and were re-hired back with back-pay. They do things out of spite more often than you would think. Also, the track in the yard is so bad they go on the ground all the time, and they don't want to spend the money to rebuild the yard properly.

Right now they are doing all they can to bypass the yard. Trains come up from Worcester and are immediately broken down in Ayer and classed. There are extra switchers and utilitymen there now. Trains leaving Deerfield east for Maine are classed. The Slurpy train out of Bellows Fall is classed. No longer are there Portland cars souped in a train... They may say its in the name of expediting the traffic, but anyone who has ever worked for the railroad will tell you, Ayer is no place to make up trains. The work should be done in Rigby where there is plenty of room, and due to its location.
