Richard "Dick" Steinheimer, noted Western railroad photographer, passed away at age 81, May 4 at his home in Sacramento. Dick had a multi-page spread in the first issue of TRAINS that I bought, July, 1955. The photo article was titled EAST BAY and the photos included forlon SN electric engines in the rain at 40th & Shafter in Oakland, the San Joaquin Daylight under the shed at Oakland Pier, a Santa Fe Golden Gate at 40th & San Pablo in Oakland and lots more. Dick's work frequently appeared in TRAINS over several decades and he also had some of his own works published. The notice of his passing was in the Boston Herald, 5/24. RIP Mr. Steinheimer.
