It looks like Warwick's railroad-crossing woes could soon be run out on a rail.
The vexing railroad gates on Main Street in the village that go down – and stay down well after a train has passed – are scheduled to be fixed, Mayor Michael Newhard said.
The news came Monday – and just in time. Village officials and Warwick merchants were fuming Saturday after the gates remained down from noon to about 3 p.m., snarling traffic and warding off would-be shoppers.

Hah! Wait 'til the CSX detours start running! (actually, should be now, 2 per day each way) With 4 additional trains thru town, the towners will really be livid!

Sounds to me like some serious track and signal work needs to take
place in Warwick. After all, when it was the L & H R, years ago, many
more trains went through there then do today, even with the detours.
According to my timetable records, the maximum speed through the area
at least in 1997 was 10 MPH, I would be willing to bet that it still is. In the
L & H R days, the speed through there was 15 MPH but I would be willing
to bet that they could do 15 without a problem as the tracks and signals
were better maintained in those days. The L & H R had automatic block
signals so the track circuits for crossings and signals had to be maintained.

NS is working on the track by South Street. They built a panel track to replace a small stretch north of the South Street crossing.
