Earlier this week I saw a Kawasaki control car, 1704 I believe, which had a telephone placard next the handicap placard. How many coaches have these telephones? Do they work? I am assuming that the MBTA chose not to spend money on installing many of them since almost everybody has a cell nowadays.

The phones have been removed, it was a test a while back, several years ago.

I also remember when Merchermittz 1515 had a railphone in the coach, but it also was removed, citing cellphones that people have. Only Amtrak still has Railphone.

The LIRR used to have railphones 5 years ago or so. Don't know if they still have them.
