TRAINS TENNESSEE in G

April 9 - December 31

Train and garden enthusiasts of all ages will be fascinated with the delightful architecture, landscapes and realistic effects in the Cheekwood’s Model Railroad Garden exhibition, Trains! Tennessee in G. This enchanting outdoor exhibition takes visitors across Tennessee with model trains, miniature representations of the state’s historic landmarks, and colorful gardens. The buildings have been intricately handcrafted using natural materials, including twigs, bark, leaves, acorns and pebbles. The landscape is made up of over 2,500 tiny trees, shrubs, groundcovers and flowering plants in 250 varieties. Train sound effects and a waterfall capture visitors’ imaginations, while tiny people and animals give the exhibit a storybook feel. Click here for more information.

Cheekwood is partly an art museum in Nashville TN with large outdoor gardens. This may not be a Train Day event but it will be a good way to bring Gscale models outdoors.

Mother Nature’s fury may have temporarily shut down Cheekwood Botanical Gardens, but it didn’t hurt the new Trains! exhibit.

According to spokeswoman Michelle Mowery Johnson, Cheekwood temporarily closed to the public last week after strong storms trekked through Middle Tennessee on Monday, causing downed trees and leaving thousands without power into Tuesday.

Cheekwood itself had at least 33 downed trees and had to call in a tree service for cleanup, Johnson said.

But the Trains! exhibit was not damaged.

The exhibit, which includes seven trains and 1,000 feet of track, was slated to open Saturday. It will run through Dec. 31.
