Station Renaming: Fairfield Metro to Black Rock

Well, better late than never!

The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) and local officials today announced plans to rename the Fairfield Metro station to Fairfield-Black Rock station in the coming months. The name change will more clearly indicate to the public the communities being served by rail service. Along with the name change, additional pedestrian safety improvements will soon be underway at the station.

Still don't understand why it wasn't called Black Rock from the get-go.

“Fairfield Metro Center” (the original name of the planned accompanying commercial development) or “Black Rock Turnpike” (the official address of the station even though the highway doesn’t actually reach it..) would have been the best choices from the beginning. “Fairfield Metro” sounded too confusing and pointless with the original Fairfield station just down the track. I know some in the area were also pushing for “Ash Creek” as an alternative name.

Of course they could have gone with a portmanteau: Fairport (And if there was a convention center built there it could have been called literally the “Fairport Convention Center” for those who know their obscure late 1960s British music )

Reminds me of Brewster North.....

Wonder what else they could rename? Perhaps the two Mt. Vernon Stations?

Maybe the two New Haven stations? I was helping a guy at New Haven-State St. who was trying to get a train to Fordham yesterday. Had the TrainTime app and everything but had never taken the train out of New Haven before and didn't realize there were two stations. Was transferring from the Hartford Line I believe.
