Way west of Martinsburg, WV, so not affecting MARC. Closer to Paw Paw, WV.

Aboard BL #702 near Cocoa--

I've learned that 97(21) was involved in an incident near Elkton MD.

Someone apparently pushed some boulders on to the tracks.

Reportedly. no injuries but the engine (6--) has damage.

Amtrak canceled the Southwest Chief between LAX and ABQ today because a BNSF freight derailed near the Arizona/New Mexico border...

And it was carrying hazmats:

NEW MEXICO (KRQE) – A train derailment has caused a closure, authorities said.

According to New Mexico State Police (NMSP), east and westbound lanes on I-40 near milepost 8 are closed.

Authorities at BNSF Railway said a train derailed near Houck around 12:42 MT. No injuries were reported, and they are trying to clear the site.

NMSP said the train was carrying gasoline and propane, which started on fire. The incident is being treated as a “hazardous materials incident.” The cause of the derailment is under investigation.

Amtrak can't catch a break today west of the Mississippi.

First: River Runner service bus subbed due to a derailment near Lee's Summit, Missouri. Derailment report:

https://fox4kc.com/news/2-with-minor-in ... it-police/

Second: Derailment of cars on the Steel Bridge (yes, literal name) in Portland, OR. No traffic of any type being run while the bridge is being checked out. Affects Cascades, Coastal Starlight, and TriMet MAX service: https://twitter.com/mikekatu/status/1784938133471309967

Your basic meltdown today. 30(28) lost 3:32 between Cleveland and Alliance. Looks like about 5:00 late into WAS.
29(28) was 4:45 late into PGH. Locomotive issues. (They stole the power from 42(30
), wyed it somewhere and were off again...only to be delayed again near Bryan because NS had scheduled trackwork. They considered buses, but apparently struck out (I have a friend riding....or sitting...and is providing me with updates). As of this posting, it's 8:45 late. BTW, 42 was annulled Pittsburgh-Harrisburg but the consist did get moved by NS power.
PS: As of 10:19 PM ET Pennsylvanian Train 42 has departed
_ Harrisburg (HAR) operating approx. 8 hours and 50 minutes
_ late.

43 (28) never made it to Pittsburgh. They had to set off the P42, get an NS engine, put the people on buses at Greensburg, then take the equipment west to Pittsburgh.
42 (29) was annulled west of Harrisburg. Passengers were bused to Harrisburg, bused to Lancaster, and put on 652. The equipment ran east with an NS SD70ACe to Harrisburg and ran as an extremely delayed (and virtually empty) revenue section from Harrisburg to NY.

30 (28) ran with an NS leader LHF from west of Pittsburgh to Washington
