The article isn't the big thing but the video that accompanies it is more interesting.

Mainly:
  • 30 year old rail replaced, oldest in the system.
  • WMATA to run extended July 4th service.
  • Buses are back to pre-pandemic levels!
  • Some moron was hit trying to subway-surf a RedLine train and died.
  • WMATA's rolling out the large swing gates in July
  • WMATA's is fully syncing up DC/VA/MD government about the $750 Million deficit. Once the problem is fully understood by them, they can work on solutions

30 year rail replaced? Sounds fishy. What is the million gross ton miles on this rail. Freight RRs probably get more out of their rail Isn't the standard about 20 MGTs on curve rail for freight?

Freight carriers don't use rail that is as light as the rail WMATA uses. The rail in question has been in continuous use sense 1987 making it 37 years old.
