The announced detour of the CZ is The BNSF Creston Sub mainline that bypasses Omaha. BNSF thru Omaha is flooded out
The CNW detour via Fremont- Blair and Missouri Valley is under water as well

The resumption of thru service to/from Chicago - Emeryville that was supposed to start 3/30 eastbound and 4/1 westbound has been postponed due to continued flooding. Service is still Emeryville - Denver until further notice.

Like they said, it's only on the traditional Overland Route for a fraction of the trip. But even then it's not usually on the "original Transcontinental Railroad", tho it's often close. Lots of realignments since 1869. The best map for SP/UP is in the May 1969 issue of Trains if you can get hold of that. Signor's book on SP's Salt Lake Division has at least one good map too.

The latest issue of Streamliner (UP Historical Society) documents the realignments and improvements to the Overland route across Wyoming since 1869.

Those with access to the various "fan cams" (or get trackside) along the California Zephyr route may choose to check out #5(4).

This consist was rather filthy (so what's new), but within such is the filthiest car I have ever observed in any passenger train - including that in the movie Dr. Zhivago.

The car, 32???, is the third car, or the first of the two Sleepers in the consist.

No further comment from me. Observe if you choose.
