On another list, a NJT engine was reported in yesterday's Amtrak #48. It was reported as a PL42AC, but with the number 812. Could this be first P40DC in NJT paint for casino service? The locomotive may have been dropped in Rensselaer for further shipment down CSX's West Shore Line.

Keep your eyes peeled…

Well…what list was this?

And if it has a number of 812, it must be a P40DC, as I don't know of any PL42ACs that have 800-series numbers…

Could be. Incidentally, they seem to get a lot of the details wrong in those lists. Very interesting. Thanks Dutch.

There was an NJTransit unit second on P04820, and it was numbered 812. Beyond that I don't know. A friend of mine got pics of it at CP169, but is not a hardcore buff so he had a hard time explaining the unit's appearance and model. I'm waiting for him to e-mail them to me.

Either way, it has been confirmed that the unit was indeed cut off at Rensselaer, contrary to previous information. Keep your eyes out on the River Sub.

I don't know that it was confirmed that this engine is in NJT livery... However it will be nice to see these oil leakers start testing..I wonder if NJT will put one in revenue service before the NY to AC service begins..

We'll see. Remember those 5 Amtrak F40PH-2s NJT spent a lot of money painting for use about 3 or 4 years back? Remember how reliable they were and how much road time they got?

Well, if the P40 is just as reliable and the mechanical department has just as much success with it as they did with the 5 F40PH-2s, we all can figure out the rest.

Who was it...CDOT I think, who leased some P40s and had to feed them 50-something gallons of oil a day?

Were still feeding them 55 gallons of lube oil a day, they have no replacements for these things till November at least.
The once NJT is getting are supose to be rebuilt including engines, but we'll wait and see.

Well, rebuilding would help, but like you said, we'll wait and see.

You are right Nick, I shouldn't hold my breath on these engines!

If these lemons don't move and end up being a bust like the 5 F40's were then what will NJT use to cover the NY to AC runs?? Do they have enough engines in the fleet currently to cover these assignments?

I don't believe it, but this one is true! Traveling as AMTK812, a P40DC (B40-8PH) in NJTransit paint will soon be enroute to the MMC!

This thing is awesome looking! The paint really works with the lines of the unit. Unfortunately my buddy who nailed it at CP169 shot slides and overnighted me copies, so I can't post them. Sorry.

However, I was pointed in the direction of someone who shot it, and did make sure it made it to the internet. Photo here:

It should be noted that 812 will not be it's road number on NJTR.

Now someone send it to Athearn, so they can make a model of it.
