North Station Headhouse

Does anybody know if the new head house for the Green/Orange Line at the FleetCenter open up yet?If not when it is going to open?

It is not yet open. I don't know when it is scheduled to open, but my answer would be 'not soon enough'.

It looks very close to finished. I saw the escalator running in it a few days ago. The Globe "Starts & Stops" column suggested it would be open by the end of this month.

I find it truly amazing that passengers transfering from the Green and Orange will still have to exit out into the elements and then into North Station. The new transfer should have been an all weather landing right inside the building but not at North Station, Delaware North would probably never agree to that. It is another disgrace that North Station riders have to endure.

Some day Delaware North or its successor will put a building in front of the FleetCenter, and then this headhouse will disappear and become an indoor portal into the subway, like you see at South Station.

Nobody will have to walk out into the elements for a long peirod of time changing from the green or orange line to get to the Fleet Center. There is going to be a tunnel under Causeway St. connecting the subway station with the Fleet Center (North Station) somewhat, people will be outside for a 20 second walk from the Fleet Entrences to the Tunnel Entrence. The Tunnel is (yes) to connect the Subway and the Commuter Rail with out walking outside if the "head house" was to be built but its also going to cut down the number of people trying cross Causway St to exit the Fleet Center at the end of an event. And yes Delaware North own's the land (the site of the where the Boston Garden stood) and the building but remember the Fleet Center is above North Station Delware North has nothing to do with that, but the CEO of Delaware North also happends to be the owner of the Boston Bruins (Jeremy Jacobs) and if he is the way he is with his team it will be a longtime before they allow a building to be build where the Boston Garden Once stood. So to get that "head house" maybe a while.

In a strange way, the NHL lockout might have an effect on this. This maybe wishful thinking, but Delaware North is losing a ton of revenue to lost concessions from Bruins games as well as ticket revenue from Bruins Games that they own. NOt saying it will happen, as this company has plenty of money, but if this drags on and becomes less profitable, maybe they sell the land to pick up some cash.

I know its a longshot, but I am trying to find some good in this.

Doubtful Deleware North is taking much of a hit in the wallett, they are getting plenty of revenue from the other tennant at the Fleet Center and probably racked in a huge profit to offest the losses from the DNC as well.

I want North Station back. It was a lot better than the hole-in-the-wall we have now. Let's get something like Ogilvie Transportation Center in Chicago, has anyone ever been there??? Nice place.

I find this extremely hard to believe. Where exactly are the Celtics supposedly moving to?

There was an article in the Herald and the Globe a few weeks back. They are looking at building an arena near Fan Pier or Suffolk Downs or another large plot of land in or near Boston

Delware North even with the Bruins not playing will not loose money. Delware North is a food company that supplies food through out the world specially here in the US (not cheap food at that either). It supplies food to the Philidelphia Eagles stadium (Fleet Center as well) and one of the Steam Boats that runs on the Mississippi River as well as some Casino's in Vagas. So the money made else where will over come the small loose at the Fleet Center. (I know its off the subject of trains but I just wanted to clearify that info). And though it has nothing to do with trains, with Delware North owning the land and the money it makes could play apart in this "head house" weather it would be build or not and if so when it would be build, but I would imagin the MBTA would be paying for it, its just at matter of Delware North allowing it. It would be profit to Delware North in terms of leasing the land but would it be any good for the MBTA? Would the MBTA gain anthing out of it? or for any possible future users of North Station (like Amtrak thats using it now)?

Ogilvie is a nice place. I have used it myself. Lots of restaurants and stuff like that, but the waiting area is still a bit on the small side there.

Its been rumored for some time. The Celtics are upset because they get absolutely 0 money from concessions as it all goes into Delaware Norths pocket, and they have no control over premium seating even for their own games.

Back on topic though, I know that the fleetcenter was built with tight limitations. Are they avoiding the same thing with a replacement on the site by waiting until the green line is demolished?

It's in Delaware North's interest to have that land developed as soon as possible. It's not producing any revenue for them sitting vacant.

Before the Green Line was demolished, it was not a very marketable piece of land to develop.
