:-D
I know nothing whatsoever about current freight operations over
these LI branches. In 1950, I observed them and know that the
regular 100+ car freights, that doubled the hill through Cold Spring
Harbor behind 'H-9 (10s?)' consols are no longer daily operational
events. Nor are potato/produce blocks moving in multiples
a regular seasonal occurence on today's mid-Island. When I return for
visits to Suffolk County, I never see a freight train, although the presence
of cars here and there, indicate service must exist.

What are simple details of freight service over these lines? That is,
are there scheduled daily, weekly, or at some other interval, trains?
If not, and they are extras, so be it. I would still like to know what the
number of carloads per week or month amounts to? I know once upon a
time the many NYS Dept. of Social Services' institutions drummed up lots of
fuel and commissary traffic, but that is gone.
Does anyone have a precis of what goes on freight wise?
Are there any large customers left?
Thank you,
PJB
