Camaraderie and community for NYC 'rail fans' passionately chasing train oddities
Mike Kam was waiting patiently on the Grand Central Station platform Saturday for a unique sight: A vintage Lo-V model train from 1917.
But he wasn’t interested in taking a “nostalgia ride,” courtesy of an MTA and New York Transit Museum tradition of offering straphangers a trip on a vintage train throughout the year.
Kam wanted to “chase the train” — taking video of it pulling into Grand Central, then racing to its destination at the Woodlawn stop in the Bronx to record its entrance into the station.
Kam, 22, is a rail fan — a hardcore transit enthusiast who belongs to an active community of train, bus and railroad lovers.
Next stop, Willoughby
