I don't know whether this has come up yet in the forums, but a whole slew of new locomotives has arrived on the St Lawrence & Atlantic. Two of the four GP40M-3s are currently out of service--I haven't seen 3804 for a while and 3803 has been OOS since its engine failure last December (it was spotted on a CN train heading to the US from Ontario a few weeks ago). Furthermore, three of the RM-1 slugs are out of service.

In any case, with traffic up and two GP40M-3s performing the duty once performed by SEVEN GP40s (all elsewhere now) four locomotives have come to supplement SLR's fleet: LLPX GP38-2 2232 (still in BRC paint), LLPX GP38 2032 (ex-CR, Operation Lifesaver), MPEX GP38M-4 2001 (which worked on the MMA since its brief appearance on the SLR in November 2000) and IC SD40 6002. Also, on a very long (122 cars) 394 freight recently, CN C44-9WL 2569 was mixed with the SLR units for the day.

This has made for some interesting trainspotting recently. The rainbows of locomotive colours are reminiscent of trains from several years ago!

SRL GP40M-3 is at the Brookville, PA shops of the Pittsburg & Shawmut, another G & W railroad. The shop there does much of G & W's heavy repairs, as well as contract work. The prime mover is missing from the unit.

Thanks for your reply! That confirms that 3803 had a major PM failure.
