The R6 Norristown when I rode it back in the mid 1990s had terrible swaying on the 65-year-old jointed rail. The trackbed including ballast, ties, and rail were replaced with CWR and a better foundation and the ride was much better afterwards. It required single-track operations for many weeks, an option that is probably not feasible on the MFL.
