BALTIMORE — The Maryland Transit Administration has awarded Alstom a five-year contract for operation and maintenance of the MARC commuter rail Camden and Brunswick lines, with options for two extensions. The initial contract is worth $401 million, with a total of value of $1.4 billion including the potential extensions in 2028 and 2033.

Alstom, which was previously awarded a contract for the two lines in 2012, will continue to be responsible for operations, crews, customer service, fleet maintenance, and station and facilties management. The fleet includes 42 diesel locomotives, 60 MARC II passenger cars and 54 Alstom bilevel cars.

Under the new contract, Alstom will also pilot a fuel-saving project and introduce some digital maintenance innovations.
