I seem to have a knack for trying to find things that aren't made.

My latest expedition is to find a US taxi in HO scale that would be suitable for anywhere in the time period 1930 through the very early 1950s. The closest I've been able to come is a Walthers rosin kit for a 1959 Checker.

I'd prefer RTR. Can anyone offer some guidance?

As always, thanks for your help/suggestions.

Well, they aren't ready to roll by any means, but Alloy Forms' 1949 Desotos and Hudsons (4 doors, of course) are a good start for your era's Taxis. Here's a nice picture of a ('movie') 1948 Dodge yellow taxi - very simple. http://www.fawcett-movie-cars.com/40_49 ... etaxi.html. In real life the front door would have been likely to have Taxi Company lettering on it: http://www.nau.edu/library/speccoll/ima ... /9917a.jpg
Note the tone-tone paint jobs...
Their Ford Club would have been even better, but it's a two door, not four. Otherwise, you could have cobbled together something like this:

Apparently Radio-Dispatch was around by 1950, so you could add a giant whip-antenna to your Taxi too (and remember, not all Taxis were yellow)

I model a mid-50s urban setting and its a challenge to find vehicles at a reasonable cost. Greg's Garage manufactures a selection of resin vehicles. Pick a nice sedan and with the right paint job you've got yourself a taxi! Follow the link to The Train Exchange, a GG distributor.

Brucejob,

Thanks for the suggestion. I've never worked with resin and it sounds like you have. How difficult is it?

Thank you.

Vik...

Sylvan Scale Models has published a great set of tips for working with resin kits. Follow this advice and you can't go wrong. Follow the link:

Brucejob,

Hey! Thanks! You may have also solved my previous futile search for a bus in that era. Greg's Garage apparently also has a '40 Flexible Highway bus - not quite the '40s city bus I was looking for but it's the closest I've come across so far.

Another bonus ... the link you provided says their models are also available as completed models - good for unskilled people such as me :-)

Thanks again for your suggestions! Happy Holidays!
