Actually I believe they may have done it quicker, between end of service on Friday night and beginning of service on MOnday....but it was so long ago I can't be certain.
The WSEL OL was actually shut-down on Friday 5/1/87 at 2:00 AM, right after Thu, 4/30 which was the last official last day. So on 5/1/87, ther was NO service at all on the Aboveground EL and the new opening for the open-cut SWC was on 5/4, which ironically fell on a Monday.
In between that weekend time, there were some demonstration rides happening on the SWC so that railfans and other users could get a sneak preview of the new alignment.
