E/W at Gov't Ctr?

I was on the green and blue last night at govt' ctr. It's been a long time since I've been in those stations, and noticed that the signs on the walls note east or westbound, and not in/out.
Is this new to match the announcements, or some wacky non-standard thing the T has going?

Then what about Downtown Crossing and Park Street on Red and Orange?
They list In/Out, and they're hubs.

Hmm. I guess I never noticed. But maybe that's because I'm always bitching that it should be N/S/E/W system-wide anyway!
