Through a friend, a question arose concerning the details of 1970's CNJ freight train derailment in Bridgewater. It occured where today's NJT Raritan Valley Line crosses over Route 202 in Bridgewater. It was at this location in the mid-seventies that a Central RR of NJ derailment took place. A CNJ spokesman attributed severe weather conditions of rain and snow as a factor. The 72nd to 80th cars of this CNJ Scranton (PA) to Elizabeth (NJ) 108 car mixed freight train derailed. Two tank cars were punctured leaking out their lacquer solvent and ether. Any information about this derailment would be appreciated...
Thank you.
