Yes, a train lost contact with the rails.

Now there are delays from single tracking from repairs. Between Bay and Walnut is the Montclair connection and several at grade crossings. Does anyone know where this was?

There were no injuries, keep up the good work NJT. Maybe you can show metro north some safety tips.

According to the article, it was a train bound for Mountain Lakes, and the derailment occurred around 6:20 p.m. According to the schedule, there is a train, 1009, that departs Hoboken at 5:50 p.m. and reaches Dover (one stop after Mountain Lakes) at 7:09 p.m. This train is scheduled to stop a Walnut street at 6:20 p.m. It checks out. The photo in the article is of a diesel locomotive, which Train 1009 would have to use. It appears to have stopped on the Montclair Connection, just south of the Pine Street grade crossing.

As we were passing the derailed engine, a crew member announced that the derailed train was soon to be visible to the right. Many looked....and saw a train. I guess media had them expecting a pile of leaking tankers based on their reactions. The engine was on the front end and still on the curve before the switch onto the old Boonton Line.

The track repair work is expected to continue until 9/8. Must have been a lot of damage.

The locomotive that derailed if any one was curious is the #4008.. A PL42.

There wasn't much to see when I went by later on that night. A bunch of people were gawking out the train windows myself included.

Yeah because a train going 15 MPH and BARELY derails is going to cause serious injuries.

Maybe NJT shouldn't have trains derail at such slow speeds and take a lesson from Metro North. MNRR gets the job done when it counts. Look at the PJL up and running in months. That would've taken NJT years if not decades.

Considering the hundreds of trips they run everyday what's the expected time between minorderailments for NJT? I don't remember the last one anytime recently.

If this was a freight railroad, the track would be up and running the next day.

How can a minimal derailment cause delays for weeks?

What a disgrace...

Yes. You're right. Perhaps they should take lesson from Metro North and derail at higher speeds while sideswiping other trains and almost going into a river.

Let the good times roll!

Ahhh. I've been looking for details on this derailment and information has been scant. However, since you know it was a minimal derailment, you must have the details of what caused it and what the full damage is.

Fill us in please.
