Hi all

Might anyone know of a spot where I can determine the precessor roads (and numbers) of GP40's I see powering CSX locals in eastern MA?

I've googled this query a couple of times a while back, but couldn't find a site that listed units individually.

Thanks,

Most of the GP40's are of B&O, C&O, L&N and SCL heritage--predecessor roads that formed the CSX. However, chances are you're not seeing them, since they're all retired. CSX does roster a lot of GP40-2's, though, from the same predecessor roads as well as from Conrail. Here's a complete photo archive with CSX and pre-CSX numbers and predecessor railroads:

The B&O, C&O and WM units were constructed after those roads were merged into the Chessie System, so they didn't wear B&O, C&O or WM paint.

The units used in Eastern Mass. are almost exclusively from the low 6200 class -- they are equipped with cab signals and ACSES for use on the B&A and Amtrak NEC. They were all former Chessie units, B&O and WM.

I believe they were also the first CSXT units equipped with cab signals for use on the RF&P back in the day.
