CR on the Southern Secondary

The Laural Avenue bridge has been struck many times. Usually it does not cause disruption to rail service. Years ago there was a significant hill just Southwest of the bridge called by the teens of the time "Thrill Hill". A vehicle at higher speed would leave the ground. The vehicle would come back down to the road just before the bridge. But if it was travelling too fast is would smack into the side of the bridge with tragic results. Hence the hill was removed. Lighter vehicles didn't effect rail but larger trucks could.

Street View shows the bridge is only 12.5 feet off the ground. Maybe a higher truck hit it over the speed limit?

@R&DB During my elementary school days we had a road like that but without a hill. Bus would hit dips in the road and the back of the bus would go airborne. You’d hit the ceiling if you didn’t have your seatbelt on!

SA31 is being held somewhere on Coast Line for three trains for three trains to go past.

Track #1 over Laurel Ave has been OOS for about three weeks now.

Coast Line Dispatch is telling SA31 to get in touch with South Jersey Dispatch…

@JohnFromJersey NJT no longer allows freight past Red Bank. There’s potential customers down there but they are not willing to accept any new freight customers on the Coast Line.

Plus if Farmingdale to Freehold is ever reopened there wouldn’t really be a point to having anyone new pop up on the Coast Line. Customers can get better service, heavier/longer trains, and not have to pay more fees for the train to go on NJT.

Does anyone know what’s going on with SA31? I haven’t heard them call clear of BANK yet…
