As I write this, they are busing between Copley and Kenmore due to a disabled train.

When a train breaks down, how long does it take them to start busing? Are drivers sitting around just waiting for the call? Where do they get drivers and buses at the drop of a hat.

Do people sometimes say, "It's only a 20 minute walk" (as this case) and just hoof it instead of waiting for a bus?

For unplanned bustitutions they normally pull buses from nearby routes, resulting in cancelled bus trips on those routes.

And yes, people do just walk instead. I know I do.

On Saturday, they pulled a bunch of buses from the 1 for the disabled train at Copley. I was on Mass Ave in Cambridge at the beginning of the bustitution and saw all the poor souls waiting for the bus that would never come.
