Today, for the first time since 1933, our 1891 Portland Company Locomotive #9 moved under it's own steam power. This is a result of a 9 year restoration, including a new boiler, new frame, restored wooden cab, and a Russian Iron Jacket, or as close to Russian Iron as one can get now.

#9 will be operating at the WW&F's Victorian Christmas, on December 19. We'll be running 2 trains with a locomotive swap at Sheepscot Station, so I'm afraid that we cannot guarantee that a particular train will be pulled by #9.

Victorian Christmas runs from 11 - 4, with an after-dark train as well. Santa is on-site between 11 and 4.

Restoration of #9 to operation is yet another big step forward for a museum that is among the most "can do" operations in railroad preservation there is.

Congratulations to the volunteers and supporters of the WW&F for preserving and operating such a significant part of Maine's industrial and cultural heritage.

Maine locomotive and Boiler caboose 554 (A Ex- B&SR boxcar) is on loan to the WWF. The boxcar was converted to a caboose by Edaville sometime around 1950/60. Was used yesterday on one of the Victorian Christmas train consists.

You've likely seen the pictures and videos of WW&F locomotive #9 lovingly restored to operation after 82 years of inactivity. Now, we are starting our next restoration project, Bridgton and Saco River boxcar 67 and need donations to purchase the necessary materials.

The Narrow Gauge Preservation Foundation (NGPF), whose mission is to enhance museum exhibits where the public can learn the story of narrow gauge railroading in a coherent, comprehensive, and entertaining manner, has selected the preservation and restoration of Bridgton & Saco River railroad boxcar 67 for a matching grant. Now at the WW&F railway museum, car 67 needs extensive repairs before it can be used in the educational mission of the museum.

Specifically, the NGPF is offering a 2:1 "challenge grant." For each $1 raised by a new donor to the WW&F Railway Museum specifically for this restoration, the NGPF will donate $2 – up to the budgeted amount for the restoration. In short, the WW&F needs $2400 of new donations to receive a $4600 grant from the NGPF – which will allow the WW&F to restore car 67 over the next several months.

The WW&F folks have done a truly outstanding job with the 9. The quality of the restoration looks like something you'd see at the Smithsonian, but unlike the stuff in that building, this is a no-kidding, working engine that will be powering trains in Alna for many years to come.

Wiscasset Waterville & Farmington No. 9, an 1891 Portland Co. 0-4-4 Forney recently restored by the WW&F Railway Museum, will be featured in a March 25 day-long photographic excursion on the restored two-foot gauge railroad. Multiple run-bys and static set-ups with multiple consists typically operated by the original railroad are planned.

The event, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m., will include firing up the locomotive in the morning and a staged and lit night scene. Sponsored by the WW&F Railway Museum, ticket sales are limited to 50 persons. However, if demand outstrips seating capacity, a second event will be scheduled for April 28. Tickets for the event are $100.

Please note that the WW&F is a secluded railroad, and all road crossings are on private land. Thus, access to the railroad will be only granted to those who purchase a pass for this charter. Please respect our neighbors and refrain from using their driveways or land without permission.

A 2 ft narrow gauge is for sale, looks to be in the UK. 25 miles of 35# rail and 250 turnouts. No idea what the folks at WW&F need but I figured I would share it.
