The IC's "Charter Line" was the first railroad land grant in the state of Illinois. It ran straight through the middle of the state from Freeport down through Bloomington, DEcatur, and to Junction City, (Centralia), where is hooked up with the New Orleans main. Almost this entire line is gone now. When was most of it ripped up? I know the segement south of Assumption was abandoned on 9/30/81, and the segment from Freeport to El Paso in 1986.
