In the SL V's there's a SL IV mode switch to be made for deadhead moves only.
It most likely turns off most safety features that are communicated between the SL V's and alters the commands sent over the coupler to the same SL II - III - IV standard.
Kinda like why NJT Multi levels are run in solid sets.
