This is great. Somewhat related - how is substation capacity? IE can they supply enough amperage given the higher horsepower of the M8, ACS, and Acelas that now commonly run the territory? Out here in Chicago, the former IC substations are a bit rough and South Shore train engineers have to switch to a lower draw setting on the western most 15 miles of track. Also, trains are limited to six motor cars for same reason.

Are there any plans to move the 25kV boundary beyond NHV? That would help deliver more power albeit that clearances and transformers would have to be reworked.

no that would be impossible due to clearances, bridges, overpasses etc were build when 11Kv 25 Hz was norm. for 25Kv you need to more than double height.
both between car and wire and structures and wire, never gone happen , just to expensive.

I wasn't thinking all the way into Pelham or anything, maybe just an extra few stations inwards. But will rely on your professional eye Dutch ;)

It's a wise decision and remarkably cost effective. Can this really be a CDOT project??? :)

Probably yes because the local electric utility delivery company is doing the real work: "Connecticut Light & Power (CL&P). CL&P has been contracted to do this critical work"

No. If it was a CDOT project, this $10 million upgrade would have been preceded by a $75 million study.

It was probably CL&P's idea in the first place. Our good governor is just taking the credit for their operational fix to this bad setup.

Lets hope they buy better parts for upgrade as what they bought for Danbury signal project.
Cause service on Danbury due to many stop and warns and signal problems have made service worse than it ever was.
