LIRR Penn Station Emergency Repair Work Mitigation Plan

Everyone:

New LIRR Branch Timetables for the Amtrak Construction/Summer 2017 service changes are now
available in the main timetable rack across from the Jamaica Ticket Office as of 6/24. These new
timetables will be effective from July 10-23 and have a cover notice "These schedules have been
modified since Amtrak, which owns and operates Penn Station, has reduced LIRR's capacity there
in order to make crucial repairs." All 11 regular Branch Timetable forms are available.

"Because Amtrak has reduced LIRR's capacity at Penn Station, some trains will be cancelled or
diverted to alternative locations and have revised stops."

The Construction Timetables supersede the May 22 timetables currently in effect which will likely
be back in use on July 24th. They have color covers with "Amtrak Construction / LIRR Summer
2017 Schedule" highlighted in red below the branch line name.

I spent about a half-hour this morning, Tuesday, July 11, 2017, observing the situation in Seaford. First of all, while personnel from various departments of the MTA were chatting outside the ticket office and few people boarded the buses, train 2735 sped through on Track 2, as it has done for years. Speonk to Hunterspoint. About 50 passengers boarded the 8-car 7:04 to Jamaica and Atlantic Terminal. About 40 people boarded 12-car Train 1013, next stop Penn Station. Buses departed about every ten minutes, fewer than 5 riders to Penn Station, maybe 10 riders to Grand Central. The buses were painted for Coach USA Lakeshore Lines, Cleveland.

Within the past year, the Town of Hempstead supervisor Anthony Santino extended the requirement of town resident permits to the entire Seaford parking lot, even that western portion built about three decades ago by the State DOT. The lot often has empty spaces because of the residency requirement. Seaford is the easternmost station in the Town of Hempstead.

Service to Grand Central was halted after a few days. Maybe the buses couldn't make it through the 63rd Street tunnel from Sunnyside.
