One report says that a train from Belfast to Dublin was stopped by young criminals south of Lurgan, Northern Ireland. They stoned it and set the locomotive afire. I have never traveled there, but it appears to be a train in Enterprise service. What sort of locomotive is used? Any other information about the assault or comments on the service provided? Thanks. Appears to be a De Dietrich DVT that was targeted (class 201 diesel on the other end?). "Burned" would be an exaggeration, at least telling from the footage- "singed" would be a more apt description. Apparently the hoods were able to gain access through a window or door on the DVT and commit theft.

Unfortunately, this train is all too often stopped by "guerrillas".

About 9 years ago at this time of year I was travelling from Dublin and the train was stopped at the first station in NI (Newry) after a warning of "bomb on the line" (false) and we were transferred to buses. (I suspect a fleet of buses is always ready there for this sort of occasion.) I nearly was late for the first lecture I was supposed to be doing in Belfast.

moderators note :lets try again with this one , i think we are all aware of Northern Irelands historical problems , and we dont want to get into arguements on who was right and who was wrong . Lets stick with the trains , or it will be locked again .
