Announcing the 40th Anniversary Express!
This September 30th, we are celebrating 40 years NJ TRANSIT Rail Operations with a one-of-a-kind excursion between New York, Newark, South Amboy, Bay Head, and Hoboken. Tickets go on sale at 10am this Friday at https://www.urhs.org/40thanniversaryexp ... BR3vNxZ9fU
This is a trip designed for rail buffs, with special motive power, first class cars, and multiple stops for photos. The highlight will be a stop in South Amboy for a re-creation of the South Amboy engine change, where the GG1-inpsired PRR Heritage locomotive will be swapped out for double-headed F40s. Following a rare opportunity to ride around the Bay Head Loop Track, passengers will disembark for a catered gourmet lunch at the Bay Head station.
The 40th Anniversary Express is all about celebrating the fascinating history of NJ TRANSIT, and inspiring the next generation of riders, supporters, and employees. The route will take us across all three of the railroad's major predecessors: the PRR, CNJ, and EL, and will pass through all three of NJ TRANSIT's major terminals.
This trip marks a return to form for URHS. Main line excursions were once a staple here in New Jersey more than 20 years ago, and we could not be more excited to partner with NJ TRANSIT to bring this experience back. We can't wait to have you on board!

Everyone: Tickets go on sale for the NJT 40th Anniversary Express on Saturday September 30th on
Thursday August 25 at 10 AM. The train leaves Penn Station New York at 9:30 AM and runs to Newark,
South Amboy (engine change), Bay Head Junction, Newark - terminating Hoboken at 4 PM.

There are three ticket types that are being sold: 1-First Class $399 - NYC Observation Car "Hickory Creek"
2-Deluxe Class $299: NYC Tavern/Lounge #43 -or- Juniata Terminal "Warrior Ridge"
3-Coach $83 - NJT Comet Five coaches

I am hoping to catch the NJT 40th along the Coast Line tomorrow. Any idea of the station time table, especially South Amboy with the engine switch?

Before you waste a trip to South Amboy, read the URHS website more carefully -

NOTE for Railfans: The engine change will occur at the “Church Connecting Track” switch at South Amboy. The property around the engine change will be closed off, and this photo opportunity is ONLY available to 40th Anniversary Express passengers.

Any truth to the statements that one of Mr. Bennett’s E8 will be part of the power ?

It would be great if there were pictures attached or links to learn more about the event. However, I looked online and found it worth looking forward to. Interesting!
