DSC_7901.JPG I had not been to the shop since I delivered the new whistles last August, so I was quite interested in what has been taking place. Lots of very positive work is being accomplished. I'll try to leave a description for each photo: 7899 Refinished and primed parts for the rebuilt cab. 79...

Consider if you will, G5's, H-10's, e6's and others, FM C liners, FM H16-44's, ALCO RS1's, RS2's, RS3's, and C-420's have ridden that table. OBRM has made it functional and uses it. What a great restoration and something of which to be hugely proud. Well done guys and gals!

Nice overall view of a very compact, yet progressive LIRR museum.

Imagine - using rail road right of way to run trains instead of joggers and trail bikes? Sounds so silly!

Thank you for a concise explanation. I'm assuming the older 244's were simply scrapped and not re-sold, huh? Shame.

OBRM is to be commended all the way around. These are three terrific advances worthy of further support. What they have ahead of them requires heavy equipment and substantial donations of money. What will they have accomplished, come October? Well done,OBRM!

Employees or not, they're in a precarious position.
Another thought, have you noticed you hear almost nothing about switch toads? Frogs, frogs, frogs! Tell me this isn't blatant racism!

I remember the dumping of "redbirds" but yes, subway cars were being dumped in the early 1960's. All manner of trash was being disposed of offshore. I recall submersible barges with retractable floors. The idea was to fill it, tow it into deep water. retract the floor and allow water press...

I don't remember that particular car, but I remember when barges took scores of NYC subway cars offshore and dumped them in the New York Bight as artificial reef structures. Once in awhile you can find photos of the old cars, taken by scuba divers, with swarms of fish darting in and out.

Can one assume the railfans with a tripod, standing on the main line are idiots?

Correct. I do believe in digital scanning of materials as well as the wide, cost-free distribution or availability of materials. The physical material is another problem. Hardware, builders plates, brakeman's lanterns, signals, are largely found in museums. Originals, such as the PRR plates at RMPA ...
