Whatever happens, it's either gotta be time separated or run as FRA compliant. I'd rather see FRA compliant so that it could run over the Hell Gate in the future.
No 1 project is a magic bullet here. Gateways full potential won't be realized unless capacity is added in Penn, capacity expansion in Penn won't be realized unless Gateway is done. Likewise for any projects for LIRRs benefit. Me personally I'd suggest Tracks 1-5 and Penn South get under the East Ri...
I know the tracks are gone, but is the space where the EX Terminal once existed now all built up with the redevelopment of the property above it, or is it vacant space still?
C Yard being extended all depends how deep the foundations are on these new buildings. Same with E Yard, although I'm curious whether the portion under 31st st could be extended to the tracks where the running repair shop at WSY is (obviously you'd have to remove the repair shop).
My vote goes to the spanish deli in Port Washington right across the street from the train station. Their pupusas are still the best I've had anywhere in the country and are one of the few things I miss about living on the island. All of the food there is amazing, cheap, and I see crews there all th...
Does anyone have any map of the track layout for once the work at Jamaica is complete? I have one from a while back (might have been posted in another thread?) but I don't know if it's still the plan, but it turns things on their head, not just for Brooklyn. Montauk/Babylon tracks would have a direc...
I'm surprised nobody has mentioned Morris Park in The Bronx. With the advent of Metro North service to NYP, it's one of several stations planned for The Bronx. I can see a business case being made specifically for Morris Park because of the multiple hospitals there, even if it is super close to New ...
I wouldn't trust any bureaucracy to find the obvious things. CLT is definitely worth looking into, especially with it being an American hub.
Maybe I'm wrong, but wouldn't service expansions on the existing NYP services (NJCL, NEC, M&E, etc) as well as Amtrak be enough to justify the tunnel in terms of utilization? I understand this is different from political justification, I'm just pointing out that Gateway, even with Penn South, li...
At a place like JFK I understand. You have to realize that with a place like JFK where you have (currently) 6 terminals spread across a sprawling complex, you're never going to serve everyone with a one seat ride. At some point, someone is going to have to transfer to some sort of people mover. You ...
That is true-if the projected numbers don't add up for the train, then you aren't getting it. Depending on where people are coming from in Bergen County if they want to connect to a train to the coastal towns of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, they might switch at Secaucus Junction. They might also ta...
The Hoosier wasn't worth saving in its current form. Track speeds need to be greatly increased and the route extended to either Cincinnati or Dayton + Columbus, as I don't believe Indy is of sufficient size to generate enough ridership alone.
That's also a list I'd like to see from Amtrak, but since we haven't really discussed it here I'd be happy to entertain. My response would be whichever routes couldn't be replaced entirely with corridors services along chunks of the route, even if they are seeing high end-ish to end-ish ridership. T...
Plenty of previous threads on here about this. I have never seen anything about it before, so my apologies. Even if there were enough engineers and equipment to run something like this the demand simply is not there to justify running this on top of the regular weekend schedule which already allows...
