Re: Best place to view CN in Minnesota?

by Jmusolf ¦  Sun Apr 13, 2014 12:35 am ¦  Forum: Canadian National-Illinois Central and Grand Trunk Western ¦  Topic: Best place to view CN in Minnesota? ¦  Replies: 7 ¦  Views: 7741

I've thought about trying Albert Lea and the former IC line that goes from there to Lyle, MN and Iowa but I don't know if that's a dead line. I mainly want to see any CN and maybe even an IC SD70. Are those common around the Twin Cities or am I more likely to see those on the former IC around Chicag...

Best place to view CN in Minnesota?

I've lived in Southern MN (Mankato to be specific) most of my life and out of all the North American Class I's I've never seen much of CN. I'm not too familiar with where they go in Minnesota outside of the Duluth area which is too far of a drive. Are there any locations close to the Twin Cities tha...

Just saw one (UP 2225) around the St. Paul area. I can provide a picture if you are interested.

If this is true about CP selling their SD60s, I'd believe it. Not because that makes sense, but because it doesn't . That's Canadian Pacific. Occasionally, these SD60s make their way onto the DM&E. They're always welcomed. Here on the DM&E, we have crap. Absolute crap. Our SD40s have been r...

I spot one standard cab SD60 in this photo.

So I'd imagine a few are stored across the system.

Re: CP 9100's coming back

I wonder if CP engineers are collectively groaning upon seeing this thread title hahaha. I have heard nothing but bad things from engineers about the CP 90MAC's.

Anyway, here's hoping they put one on the DM&E, would love to see those since I haven't seen them since the early 2000s or so.

Since my last thread in the BN section sort of had to do with BN and GE, it made me wonder. Seems like in the 1990s just about every major class I railroad ordered widecab GE products except for Burlington Northern. Does anyone have any insight as to why this was or was it just BN's loyalty to EMD?

The MM&A and the IAIS come to mind for me too, and possibly the Red River Valley & Western, Twin Cities & Western, and the Dakota, Missouri Valley & Western. Those would deliver more ag and ethanol traffic, and the DMVW would bring more oil and fracking shipments too. Another intere...

Re: A questing regarding CP's SD30C-ECO rebuild program

Doubtful considering the loss in versatility and the fact that even the standard hood units in the program are receiving new bodies. I agree but you never know with CP. They may just call the new locomotives SD30CF-ECO and have them be the same externally with the cowl body but all eco friendly on ...

Why did CP stop putting the 'gold beaver' on motive power?

Just something I've always wondered and maybe some of you who work for CPR could answer for me. Why did CP stop using the 'golden beaver' emblem decal on their motive power? Why do I ask? A little story might explain. I always liked going up to the Twin Cities as a kid from where I lived in Mankato,...

Two matched units in the new paint scheme went north last night on 226, here is a shot of them and I think it is the most beautiful paint job anywhere in the US today. More repaints are in the works too. http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=433568" onclick="window.open(this.href);...

Re: Did CP Rail pay too much for the DM&E?

They get unit trains from DME, but they get a second route to Chicago and access to KC with ICE. From everything I've heard CP will keep the Eastern side of DME from Winona, MN to Tracy, MN because it's profitable due to ethanol and grain traffic. Sounds like they want to get rid of everything west...

Has anyone ever noticed how some of the GE's on the Brazilian mining railroad Estrada de Ferro Vitória a Minas ( EFVM) bear a striking resemblance to BN's Executive paint scheme on the SD70MAC's? An interesting variation I'd say. http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=391237&nseq=12" ...

I've seen a CP geometry train on the Iowa Interestate back in 2011, though I was told IAIS was borrowing it for their own use. Yet I've heard it's been sighted there other times and IAIS seems like it would fit well in the system. Isn't IAIS a big ethanol hauler? Perhaps CP would want more control o...
