When I was about that age I stuck a knife in the toaster (the pound cake I was toasting was stuck). No burns, but the jolt threw me across the room slamming me into the opposite wall. I remember sliding down the wall, wondering how I got there! Don't Do That!

Thanks, CRail.

Thank you, wigwagfan, for those photos. (I think the stop sign at the end of my street is bigger than that sign!)

Could they paint that retaining wall a bright or reflective color or put reflectors on it?

Surely there isn't just ONE sign or signal that marked the proximity of a speed-restricted stretch of track? This is certainly not meant to be flip --- but I know of people who have been cautious enough that they have used magic marker on themselves to remind their surgeon what side is supposed to b...

Praying for miracles and comfort for all involved.

I watched for about 5 hours yesterday. Those people worked very hard! The job they did was awesome! I saw a couple of trains, carrying hundreds of people over that bridge, around 9PM Friday night. (The last train was scheduled at 11 PM!) So, between 11 PM Friday night and 7 PM Saturday night they ha...

LOL, I must say, I won't even sit in any of the cars with a bathroom (for the uninitiated--that is every-other car!) I would rather stand for 40 minutes!

Well if 90 percent of the people who DO respond say they want cinnamon potpourri in every car ---- don't complain!

Maybe you can drop the survey off at your station and save the 49 cents postage.

Look at Google maps 3D of the bridge. I can tell you, that when you are actually there, that slope up to the north from under the bridge is pretty significant. I can imagine a big-rig driver thinking that with the increased clearance they can fly through --- but, I wonder if it will make it a third ...

In evacuating people I think there is very little the LIRR could do other than normal operation as long as possible and then get their equipment to high ground. There are a finite number of trains. The trains headed out east might be empty, but they would still have to get there some how to pick up ...

nyandw - for historical accuracy, the train actually departed a little after 8:30pm (not 10:01) --- That from an eyewitness who was "chasing the train" and had to call people and tell them not to come at 10, because the train was already gone. And, he said it looked like a ghost train...no...
