Things have been quiet at the Wildwood rail yard for the last 3+ weeks, since The Villages daily Sun ran an article stating that switching at the yard has been moved south to Lakeland. The Wildwood City government has been complaining that a few railroad crossings were being blocked for extended amo...

How about the leased Geeps of the 70s before the GP38s arrived. They ran the Greenport Scoots and freights.

I've been in the Florida sun too long.

In the 50's I lived in Astoria, and for a short time on Steinway St there was also a location there. I ate there twice. The first time they used the Lionel trains to bring the food along the counter, but the next time they wouldn't use it. Shortly after that, the location closed up.

The day before Thanksgiving 2 CSX Geeps towed in to the Conrad Yelvington Aggregate Yard a Conrad Yelvington Geep. It is now sitting where the old Alco SW sits when not in use near the office building at the north end of the aggregate yard. The old Alco now sits at the far south end of the yard. I d...

I haven't seen the Tropicana Juice Train here in Wildwood FL in months. It used to be a twice weekly - 30 car train. I know that the Citrus blight damaged the crop, but the hurricane wiped out the crop. I don't know if anyone has seen the train elsewhere or if was cancelled or rerouted.

Bill,
Excellent quality photos. I wished that I could have been there to see it being done. Those Bay Crane people are something else!!!
I'll probably see the finished bridge when I come up north for Christmas.
Thanks for your taking the time to photograph the project!!!

I hope someone can photograph the switch out of the bridge. I can't get up to LI until December so I'll miss the new bridge placement.

I must be getting old, as I remember the lower level of 42nd Street being used for the Aqueduct Raceway Special express trains that started there. I would guess that those trains used that layup track. I don't know if the later day JFK Expresses ever used that layup track.
