Re: Lackawanna Cutoff Passenger Service Restoration

FWIW, I think Amtrak should construct and build the line west of Andover to the Poconos, Scranton, Binghampton and Ithaca. The latter being a huge college destination, where a lot of folks from the New York metro area attend college. As far as train ridership, you'd have an express to the Poconos fo...

While searching for a news update on this, I came across a news article about a new book for the cutoff. If you're interested: http://www.njherald.com/20171126/sussex-county-lost-nov-26-new-book-on-lackawanna-cutoff" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; No other news on progress h...

Does anyone have any idea how frequently the ability to switch from electric to diesel has come handy over the years? A few years ago I remember hearing about a Coast Line train switching after something crapped out, but really how frequently has this feature come useful? I think it would take a la...

It's cheaper to buy a $11M locomotive with a gigantic generator than it is to build backup generators to power catenary. A lot of the comments here are directly related to whether this is a good replacement for the current 45+ year old diesels. But, those comments ignore the fact that a dual mode ha...

The actual replacement of the Newark Draw is unlikely to begin before 2035. The money just approved is money for conceptual design. We still need a preliminary engineering design, engineering design and then actual construction which is where most of the money is. The people commenting on this proj...

At the Oct 16 NJT Board Meeting a representative from the Lackawanna Coalition spoke against the Newark Draw project, which frankly surprised me. I appreciate the fiscally conservative approach, especially in light of the many other projects that NJT needs to complete, but I don't agree with the see...

Bonds. That's how Cuomo is paying for his building spree in New York. Renovated airports, new bridges, subway enhancements, etc. Immediate gratification, spread over decades of paying it back. But, sometimes that's needed. Especially when you've underspent for years, causing the system to go into a ...

Hopefully the change in political leadership means good things will happen on these dreams (capacity improvements). I think we'll see an announcement of full funding restored to NJT operations and capital by Spring, possibly even some retroactive capital funding to make up for years of neglect. It's...

They should move everything to the cloud. It won't solve any issue, but it sounds good and investors will love it. Fluffy clouds.

The canal contributes to flooding, which floods PATH, causes major service disruptions and contributes to higher taxes / fares. Fill it in!

Could they run both locos in tandem for extra traction during leaf season? Otherwise, it's just more dead weight to get rolling... Yes, it should help you get going. But for stopping when things are slippery, I don't know it a passenger railroad car can brake better by itself, or a loco can. What I...

Do the majority of extra train crew get off at Dover? Perhaps its a timing issue with employee schedules? It does seem silly to run to Port Morris and not stop at the stations along the way, especially if it could cover a significant service gap. It's not like you're saving time in the schedule, or ...

John Flannery is responding to activist investors. By breaking GE up, the stock price will increase through divesture of "underperforming" assets and by freeing up cash to maintain stock buybacks and/or increase dividends. The latest news is GE may leave the DOW, which also tends to hold t...

That's annoying. I'm sure there are excuses. Do they X from Port Morris to Dover in the a.m. as well?
