Re: West of Hudson Fleet Status

In the course of another trans-Atlantic pilgrimage to see elderly EMD products in their natural environment, I spent some time today at Hoboken and riding on the Port Jervis line in the deepening snow, observing in the process the following WoH geeps in revenue service: 4900, 4901, 4902, 4903 and 49...

Sorry to dig up this old thread, but does anyone know if NJT weekly passes are still cross-honored between different lines up to the same fare/zone? I ask because whereas the NJT website clearly states this is the case for monthly passes, no such information is given for weeklies so I wondered if th...

A recent UK visitor to the NYC area reports seeing very little of the WOH locomotive fleet active at Hoboken over the course of several days - specifically, only 4906 was sighted, and that didn't turn a wheel. By contrast my own visit in February 2018 yielded all of them except F40 4913 working. Ar...

Not being a local I can't answer the second part of this except to say there are no stations inbetween Hoboken and the junction at which the Newark and Secaucus lines diverge, which is only a couple of miles from the terminal. As to Hoboken itself, there is uncontrolled access to all the platforms -...

Presumably Hoboken division = Main/Bergen lines to Suffern and onwards into MNCRR territory to Port Jervis, and Pascack Valley line to Spring Valley; Newark Division = everything else except the Atlantic City line. However whereas the former are non-electrified and in theory any train could get a Me...

In February last year, I saw seven out of the eight MNCRR F40s in service over two days. I was back in late October and they were notably fewer, with at least four NJT GP40s in use on Port Jervis trains - so I wondered if most of the F40s were shopped for PTC installation at that time.

There is a lot of interest in US railroads from enthusiasts here in the UK, particularly in those commuter operations still running older power such as MBTA. I don't anticipate being able to make a return visit to Boston anytime soon myself (was there last February chasing GP40s and F40s,) but I kno...

The 73-class is still running, too. There is probably 10-20 owned by GB Railfreight and most are used to haul the Caledonian Sleeper north of Edinburgh. They are straight diesel now. Actually all operable 73s (29 in total I think) are still 650/750V 3rd rail capable, it's just that the heavily re-e...

I made another 3500 mile GP40 pilgrimage to New Jersey this last Monday, and although very pleased to find no fewer than ten geeps from the revenue fleet in passenger service (4100, 4201/02/03/06/07/09/11/16/19,) I did not see a single top'n'tailed set running. A contact had noted both 4112 and 4120...

Yes, there are still some trains running with locomotives on both ends. Recent non-revenue sightings include 4119, 4120, 4200, and 4103
Thanks for the reply. Be nice if the F40s stay in passenger service for a while.

Apologies for repeating a question I posted a couple of weeks ago on a different thread, but this might be a better place to ask. Is the ongoing cab car PTC equipment installation programme continuing to require the use of a second locomotive on some train sets, or has the (hopefully temporary) clos...

Sort of relevant to this thread, but apologies if deemed an inappropriate question - can anyone advise whether (i) the top'n'tailing of passenger sets with two engines in lieu of cab cars oos for PTC equipment installation, and (ii) the use of non-revenue locomotives, are still going on? Or have the...

I would thoroughly recommend a visit to Hoboken for any railfan - it's a real gem (and I'm under no illusion that regular commuters and the train operators won't see it that way!) I've been a rail enthusiast for 40 years but made my first ever visit to the US back in February and - bizarre as it may...
