Anything new at Medford for NYA, customer-wise? How often does the team track get switched? Thanks.
Interesting map! No Hicksville Team Yard yet, though. When was that land acquired by the LIRR and the yard built????
Great stuff, as always.
Anybody know the history of this customer/siding/spur? Since the early '80s, when I first took the LIRR to points west, from Hicksville, I don't remember ever seeing flatcars or gondolas loaded with pipe, just west of the station. Only huge piles of dirt.
Anyone have recent pictures of the now-idle siding and spurs at Eastport they could share? Thanks.
I was told by my neighbor who works for the LIRR in Signal that he heard NYA has approached the LIRR about building a long DEF in the Medford area. He said there was one there a long time ago, which is why the bridge over Rte. 112 is for two tracks. NYA needs the flexibility it would offer for their...
I distinctly remember the flyer for the November, 1986 trip said "Alco Motive Power," and it went to L.I.C. via the Lower Montauk, then West Hempstead, and then out to Montauk and back. It returned via the Central Branch, making a stop at Hicksville, then Jamaica. I got the flyer at Hobby ...
The November, 1986 trip to LIC, West Hemp and Montauk was supposed to be L-2 powered, and the flyers said so. Big disappointment- two E-15s, 153 was one of them, as I recall, were the power. Never got a reason for the change of power. 619 was the power-pack. She looked fine that day.
Anyone hear about or see a cut of several CN and GT boxcars out on one of the Calverton spurs? Who would be receiving (or shipping) in boxcars there? Thanks.
The prime-movers of the DE/DM's will live on, in stationary power or marine applications, like most of the Alco/MLW 251 engines still do, despite having once powered locomotives scrapped 35-40 years ago.
I'd love a pair in HO scale from Athearn or Atlas. Maybe one or the other will offer it at some point.
And it's locomotive livery, too.
What became of the locomotive, 265? Still in existence?
There were two E-15s with a consist of either gondolas or flatcars in the yard, late yesterday afternoon. One on each end, close to the north end of the yard by W. John St. That yard has changed much in the past few years compared to 40 years ago when I first saw it.
I think NYA lost the use of the team yard to the LIRR upon the renewal of their franchise after the initial 20-year concession that began in May, 1997.
