As per some other musings, Baton Rouge and Boston headed south on 6/21 on the Meteor.
Very anecdotal and an odd time immediately after the holiday, but on the Tuesday after Memorial Day I happen to be waiting on the platform at 30th st. for an Amtrak train an saw the ~6:30am PHL-ACY departure with about 8 people on board a 3 car set.
61 just picked it up at Abrams and is headed east on the Norristown line.
With these service cuts, might they add a few cars on the other regionals to try to backfill capacity? I'm not sure those PHL-HAR runs will necessarily need all 5 cars. Though that is narrow mindily assuming they'd dedicate specific sets just to those runs.
I happened to be out in Duncannon, PA yesterday and saw 507 headed West. Not sure if anyone caught it when it was through NJ.
A quick look at google maps which seems to be somewhat recent shows about 15 AEMs, 15 HHPs, a handful of diesels, and 3 Turboliner sets at Bear. There are obviously a number of Amfleets including 4-6 cab cars, but most look like they have been in some operating condition within the past ~5 years. Th...
My experience is very anecdotal so I know there are far more factors that goes into Septa's decision to keep 1 hour head ways during off-peak hours.
There are quite a few transit developments or population bases in walking distance to the Norristown line (Norristown, Conshy, Spring Mill, Manyunk, East Falls) that could support more frequent service throughout the day. I know there have been several times when I wanted to take the train in from t...
I'd agree that NJT needs to retune schedules to account for the commuter in/out of Philly. University City is booming and will continue to be a center of economic development. I imagine there are a decent number of NJ residents who work / will work in University City. While the roundabout route of t...
As stated before, the Norristown Line needs a tune-up. An 18 mile trip takes nearly 1 hour, making the average train speed below 20mph.....which almost makes a bicycle as competitive as the Norristown Line trains. Even in poor traffic on I-76, the journey in rush hour takes less than an hour from t...
There was a set in Race St. yard yesterday afternoon.
I saw a leaf train by Conshohocken a week or so ago. Not sure if it was actually spraying. If I remember posts from previous years, don't they do some type of preliminary run.
At about 5:45pm yesterday a Genesis loco appeared to be backing a full Silver set, ACS and all, into Race St. Coach yard in Philly. I couldn't tell exactly, but there were 2 or 3 viewliners.
Definitely hope those down south stay safe.
I'll echo a similar sentiment with regards to the practicality of all this. Conshohocken isn't exactly a traffic free zone in it's own right. It is not ideal for people to exit 76 and take 10+ minutes just to get to the train station or probably longer from the train station back to 76. Especially i...
A 6 car set just passed Conshohocken headed back into center city.
