Remember that the night owls often run with a diesel and electric for CAT maintenance.

There is a sign north of the Deland station on the rout. . Says end CFR begin CSX. That should end all this incorrect speculation.
Multiple targets can benefit: Just only for Amtrak: A) use the money to replace fixed catenary for constant tension catenary on NYC-DC part so that trains can run faster then 135 mph B)electrify the new state/amtrak owned double track in Virginia. C) A part for the gateway program (new tunnels/brid...
AM::: Electrostatic air cleaners ? If so same model as originally provided or the newer ones ?
Electrification in VA ? Think this thing thru. Potholes work is not an exact science. First find any buried cables. Is there any ? Pothole equipment will hit impediments mainly rock but RR have been known to bury wreck debris near tracks. Pothole equipment has to be rail mounted at difficult access ...
If the failure mode on the Nippon car is known then engineering for a new design car does not have to start from zero.
Seems like all the new locos and motors are all providing HEP from inverters. That may not be true for the DC traction motored locos some agencies ordered in the near past. 2 locos on every train except the Builder in winter provides enough redundancy . That is enough IMHO. Now for short trains mayb...
As I understand it the actual failure of the Nippon car has not been disclosed. Was it straight crush, torsional, angle, or some other type ?
I would have thought the 12 K.V cables are feed cables for the nominally 11 K.V cat cable. The track is your Neutral return path , which would be tied to Earth. As Actually the CAT voltage is now nominal 12.0 Kv +/- 10 % Has been since the 1980s. System is single phase with 2 feeders one 180 degree...
For the next few days we better support an Amtrak bailout. Call and write all 3 of your congress critters and the chairmen of various transportation committees. If Amtrak is not bailed out there will not be a chance to get this route Amtrak in the future.
Tadman is correct. I have noted the many components that are common. What is even more important is that component connections are now common across all equipment. That way when the present inventory of a part is used up a new and hopefully better part will fit right
boy if I had recovered from the virus would definitely take several trips.
