Looks like the whole train derailed. According to NJT.com, the suspension in this segment will run through Wednesday.
The platform paint, the grey, is an epoxy - similar to what you see on shop floors in garages. Very thick. They actually have stripped the burgundy paint off down to the concrete before applying the epoxy. It doesn't look as though this will carry to tracks 1-4, which are exclusively NJT. But I will...
I'm in the minority, but I love that post-diesel smell after they move through. Only second to the loud roar they make, late at night, when you know a work train is coming. Seeing how infrequent these move through, and at off hours, I can't imagine that many riders would complain. Though it's bad fo...
Over the past month, I've noticed all the platforms in NYP are being completely stripped and repainted. All columns/walls/stairwells are being painted bright white, and platforms are getting a heavy duty gray epoxy type coating. New signage is also being installed, including destination signs and tr...
They could pair an ALP46 with one cab and run push-pull. I recall a pair of MLs and an ALP ran on the line some years ago (for what reason I can't recall).
Recently, I noticed construction happening at the northern end of the storage track between the express tracks at 34th Street / IND - the one that has a bumper block just south of the Express platform. Appears a cinderblock structure is going up, and it looked like the bumper was gone. Is this track...
Yeah, this is not part of Moynihan. However, according to NJT's press release, this project is being done in concert with Amtrak and the LIRR, so likely it's a part of the larger Penn Station improvements. The presser also mentioned plans to eventually have NJT take over a majority of the Upper Leve...
So it looks like NJT will be a part of Moynihan station after all. (or at least rehab parts of Penn Station) https://www.progressiverailroading.com/passenger_rail/news/NJ-Transit-awards-contracts-for-Raritan-bridge-Penn-Station-projects--60460 I saw this on NJT's Instagram page - a little confused....
NJT regularly brings dual-modes into Penn, the ALP-45DP. I don't know if these have any special tanks, but we've had them occasionally even on my NEC trains.
I'm all for more efficient repair methods. And I know in NY we tend to do things at a massively complicated and labor intensive way that drives up costs. But one of the criticisms of the L train approach was that it was band-aiding the issue - patching compromised concrete instead of properly repair...
I know the subway is continuing full service to try and keep people distanced. But I imagine with a 90% drop on the commuter railroads, they could curtail service and still keep people separated.
As a daily rider, I can say improvements have been modest at best. Communication is still horrible, especially in service disruptions. Trains are still cancelled left and right. I've seen improvements in on-time performance, particularly in the evening rush - not withstanding signal issues near NYP ...
The secaucus loop needs to happen regardless. Orange and rockland counties absolutely need a direct one seat ride into manhattan. Why? The loop was always a bonus IMO. The 2nd portal bridge, the extra track from Newark to Portal, the new tunnels - these will increase capacity from Newark to NYP. An...
Noticed a very, very slight drop in volume on NJ Transit NEC line this morning. Nothing that I'd probably think twice about under any other circumstances, but noticed less cars in the parking garage and maybe slightly less crowded train. Bigger drop-off has been in NYC where many subways were notice...
