True, but not clear how the connection from the tower moves the points.
Can someone describe the action of the linkage of the switched diamond (movable point crossover) at Nassau Tower? [image from Steve Lynch's website] http://www.trainsarefun.com/lirr/mineola/nassautower/nassautower-switchmechanism05171979SteveRothaug.jpg It looks like there are two parallel tie rods ...
There was another Long Island Rail Road forum hosted on thermomods.com, but that one blocked spiders from crawling the website. That kept the wayback machine from indexing the site. So when the system crashed al the discussions were lost. Bummer...
And further... I see the crossing at Nassau has movable points so the selected path has effectively a continuous rail. Anyone have a clear photo of that arrangement?
Does anyone have plans or drawings for Nassau Tower? I've got a friend who is scratch building it in HO scale and would love some real drawings.
Why couldn't a train go east from Sunnyside, take the outside track around the big loop, and then towards GCT?
I found it! Went through all my LIRR books (and there are a lot of them!) and found the nativity scene photo in Steel Rails to the Sunrise by Ron Zeil and George Foster. Hope I'm not violating any copyrights... This was Christmas 1963 at Hall Tower.
I rode the Hempstead branch from 1963 to 1966 and remember a Christmas decoration competition between the stations along the way. I also remember a nativity scene at Hall Tower that apparently lasted one day. I know I've seen a photo.. perhaps in one of the LIRR books? Discussion elsewhere on this f...
Not sure how the signaling system detects a train's or a car's exact location, but I can see the last car on the siding not being pulled far enough onto the siding so that it allows clearance on the main.
Or didn't fully clear a switch on a siding.
Kudos to Amtrak - they found it!
Thanks too for the helpful responses on railroad.net!
I've moved this to Amtrak group (always thought of this as a Long Island only forum...) duh.. Any additional response should go there.
Thanks!
My brother-in-law left his laptop bag on a westbound train in Buffalo.
He has had zero luck with lost & found... can't seem to get anyone's attention or any response beyond "We'll let you know in 30 days"
Anyone have any contacts or hints to help the search?
Thanks!
Pat
A little customer service would help. A little apparent effort would help too. My brother-in-law's comments: "Amtrak customer service has not lifted my spirits. I filled out the lost item form which generates an automatic email to tell me they'll let me know in 30 days if they don't find it. Th...
