Re: Green Line Type 9 Thread

This is unique to the Greenline since just about everything else in Boston is fiberglass (there are a few heavyrail/lightrail cars with uncushioned fabric covers). Not true. In fact I'd say it's the reverse. Red and Orange both have cloth seats throughout. Only blue has plastic/fiberglass/whatever.

And is already the case for the Downeaster at Woburn.

why would NNEPRA want to fund service that terminates in Dover? That should fall on the shoulders of New Hampshire, and good luck with that. To free up seats for passengers to Maine. The NH stations generate enough ridership that NNEPRA essentially makes money off stopping there, since they have to...

Is there yet any firm list of interstitial station stops between Brunswick and Rockland? I don't know that it can be called "firm" until the trains roll, but they've discussed the same stops that the MERR used: Bath, Wiscasset, and Nobleboro. That last one has always struck me as being of...

With the lengths Amtrak goes to to prevent passengers from having to ride facing backwards, I wouldn't be surprised if that were the primary reason.

I updated the above bid to $1,080m (from $955m) because the higher price is the one that the winning contractor bid to include all of the "additive options": This is not quite correct. $955 million was their bid price. $1.08 billion was with contingencies added on. The $955 million includ...

^ That's always been the case for me, for years now. I think only once or twice has a trip I booked online actually showed up in the app without me having to search for it every time. Makes the app kinda useless, because then it's easier to pull up the PDF they email you.

Correct, I theorized that the owner doesn't want the general public to realize that is a station entrance, because it is on their property. Their employees will know it's there, as will anyone else who gets curious and finds it. It could be a liability issue. It could be that the legal agreement all...

Not really putting the cart before the horse/donkey. It's important to have the future operator's input in designing what they're going to be running. DB knows what they're doing with HSR, so they can help the CHSRA with final design to ensure the system will run smoothly once ready for service.

So I took a look this morning. A teeny tiny portion of the retaining wall has crumbled just beyond the ties across the tracks, themselves just north of the platforms.

That's actually an entrance to State station - it leads to the far north end of the northbound platform. It was originally built as an Adams Square entrance for the station (see this article ). After the construction of Government Center and the obliteration of Adams Square, it's not well used. I r...

The portion of those tracks up to the platforms at Sullivan was still in use until as recently as maybe a year ago. That's the last time I saw freight cars stashed there. There are ties across the tracks between the north end of the platforms and the Maffa Way overpass. I'm not aware of any portion ...

The next steps are to check the tracks between Brunswick and Rockland to see if they meet the needs of the equipment. Didn't Amtrak run a train up to Rockland recently? Like within the last year or two? I thought that was essentially an 'inspection trip'. The train would then return to Brunswick, w...

That was not meant to be a dig at you at all, Mr. Norman. I've just seen this article pop up in multiple circles now and wanted to remind people as to its origin so that they may consider that in their interpretation of it.

Before giving any consideration to this opinion piece, it's worth noting that Randal O'Toole has a very notorious reputation in many circles as being vehemently anti-transit, almost to the point of absurdity. And I don't know about you guys, but I'm sick and tired of hearing "driverless cars ar...
