I'm guessing they were Gypsy Moth infestations, they used to be an issue but I didn't know they were a nuisance a...

Not abandoned, just ask any track/signal or ET gang looking for better digs than a drafty firebox of a trailer. However Transportation has been keeping some of the towers in place "just in case", pandemic (which did reopen Queens for a while, also Queens gets used during Belmont Stakes). T...

That was last year. Originally, the plan was for Valley to go before Babylon but the situation changed and Babylon went first.

Valley Tower remoted to JCC

Today was the last day Valley Tower moved trains, it was cut-over to JCC around 9:00 am. This leaves Lead, Brook, West Side Yard and Mid-Day Storage Yard. There's plans to eventually put Lead into Jamaica, but for now they're keeping it where it is. The existing Valley Tower was put into service 193...

Great job as always! Still haven't got past the CRR portion, amazing and new for me. Thanks for your work!

I was sitting in traffic on the Merritt this past weekend and was surprised to see TC's go south along the bridge into Talmadge Hill. This was during the weekend too. Looked like a tie crane and a regulator, couldn't recognize the others.

I thought I saw them (pic online, dying to go up to see it myself) doing tie work on the switch by the old Fairgrounds. It may have been just the headsticks but could be tie replacement to get it up to 15. Anyone know? Thanks in advance!

Regarding Elmont being closed today only - the new configuration of Queens now allows us to run the Belmont Race trains back and forth on ML 2 and 4, and put everyone else on ML 1 and 3. This allows continuous service without any one getting stuck waiting for a BRT to clear. They have to crawl comin...

MACTRAXX: I haven't gone out there in ages, as I was saddened to see the seismic shift in the demographics of what used to be a very unique town was ruined as the old timers in Montauk died off, retired, etc. and the newcomers were from a different planet and/or dimension. But the "problem"...

No, not really. They're using it and it now has power switches and a block operator throwing switches within the yard, in addition to Queens doing their thing. It should really help with big events like the Belmont Stakes. Elmont station has it uses but they're still all-in with Belmont Racetrack st...

There had been a plan to extend it at some point, hence the elevated platform, but like the unused platform at Greenlawn it came to naught. I haven't heard of any recent plans to do it. Pt. Jeff yes, but not east of Babylon.

The bad overcrowding was around 2015-2016 (the Montaukalypse) but after that the town reigned in the insanity and the clubs cashing in on that. Coupled with the pandemic driving out of lot of folks from NYC, so now a lot of the old commuting crowd live there year round. Not sure where the "popu...
