I always see photos of D&H under the Starrucca Viaduct in Lanesboro, PA. The 1 track line expands to 2 tracks and a 3 position signal trackside. Just noticed the D&H is gone. Tracks obliterated but bridges and other evidence remain. Can anyone tell me when/why the D&H was removed?

I talked to the hi ups at several of the existing cement mills in the Bath, PA area a few years ago. When I asked them why up until the 1980s there were 100 cars spotted on their spur and today 5 cars, the answer I got was all the same... rail service reliability sucked, rail company customer servic...

If the new line (Cutoff) was built to replace the old line in 1912, why did the old road last until 1970? What purpose did it serve?

Google maps still shows it backed with chemical cars. Don't know how old the satalite views are though. Geese they built a housing subdivision right up to the plant! People's back yards are literally touching the plant.

Just doing some google satelite surfing. Noticed that the CNJ from P'burg a few miles into Easton looks cleared and new ballast? Last time I was there it was in the middle of the forest and you couldn't even see the rails. Any news on what's going on? It doesn't look like those spurs at the industri...

In Miami with grandkids. thought about doing Disney World this weekend but don’t really want to drive. Drive time on the Florida turnpike is three hours. Looking at ATK web site it shows Silver Star at 7.5 hours and Silver Meteor at 6 hours. and that if the trains run on time which they never are. h...

The fed gov't agency regulating RRs at the time forced abandonment of the branch in 1974 from Somerville to Flemington because the tracks were so bad and the only customer left was getting tank cars filled with chemicals. From that point on, the tanks came up from the other end from the BelDel. The ...

I remember back in the mid-1990s on all the UPS pick up boxes it had "overnight anywhere $5" for letters. Shipping a letter now overnight will cost you approx $40-$50. Yes, certain companies that are hi volume shippers and organizations (such as AAA and Realtors) get discounts, some small ...

You know it goes by rail when it takes friggin forever (5-7 business days) to make it across the country.
And UPS 'surepost' oh lord. Half the time it doesn't make it at all.

I know coal volume is way down. I did a few satellite views of Lambert's Point and it looks at least 60% empty. Are things THAT bad?

When I said CSX I meant Chessie. Most rr folks still refer to CSX as Chessie. The book said Chessie owned 51% of RDG. The 4 friends offered $25k and Chessie agreed. Old newspaper clippings from the era confirm this.
