Re: East End Service: Greenport Scoot, Montauk Line, Etc.

I'm looking to do a bit of an adventure and ride the train all the way to Montauk and back. I've been on LIRR a few times but only in Queens. Normally get to the city on Metro North's Port Jervis Line. Has anyone ever ridden the Cannonball? I'd love to ride that, but it looks so crowded that it woul...

Get ready for some major gridlock on the Garden State Parkway. Hardly anyone is going to take the train if they have to make EVERY stop along the entire route.

ML is 2x2 because the floor is raised on the lower level for where the seats are and they just made the upper the same.

People do sit in the middle seat sometimes on comets but only on the most crowded trains. Usually it ends up being 2×1 or 2×2 in terms of actual seats occupied.

They just bought a bunch of new Viewliners for service in and out of Penn. There's no reason to have the Superliner replacement fit in there. Amtrak looked at one point looked at going to bi-level cars for the NEC but decided against it. The only current design that can fit everywhere it needs to is...

Any idea what happened to train 42 today? It was cancelled and 44 was also 15 minutes late due to having to accommodate passengers from 42 as they said, but 44 wasn't overcrowded (I rode it). Guessing they had to use 44 to push the faulty set into a siding.

Upon looking at the schedule, I saw the following trains had Multilevel equipment: When riding 50 from Port Jervis, a Multilevel set was passed at Suffern signed as 1156. This one would've first gone west on 1103. At Route 17, 1154 was passed which was also a Multilevel set. This is the Suffern base...

I think I saw all 5 Multilevel sets this morning. Never seen that many on this line. Rode 50 and 43 from Port Jervis to Hoboken and back just for fun.

NJT had their Multilevel 2's delivered by Amtrak. They desperately needed them due to Sandy damaged equipment and it was faster than using freight carriers. They used back to back P42's above Albany and back to back P32ACDM's below Albany to get into Penn. Basically, Amtrak will deliver other agenci...

On the Main/Bergen Line they reverse the set of the first inbound in the morning on each track when it snows since they don't want the cab car plowing it all off. Sometimes there are reversed sets for other reasons, or locomotives on both ends due to cab car shortage/failure so there are no restrict...

If it's that simple, then there's no excuse for having their equipment shortages. They could've picked up pretty much any used single level cars for a steal and then put them on some of the lower ridership trains in the diesel system.

What modifications (if any) are required to run non C3 equipment with the DE/DM 30's?

Could LIRR borrow anything from Metro North? The P32's are more than capable of using over-running third rail as they do on Amtrak and Metro North doesn't have a huge increase in demand for summer (actually probably a slight decrease). I know the DE/DM 30's can't run with anything but the C3's which...

I could see them doing something like that as a fill in for when the LSL isn't going to NYP, but not permanently. They could add extra cars to the Pennsylvanian for Coach passengers and have a better timed transfer in Pittsburg and throw in an Acela ride to WAS for sleeping car passengers. The Capit...
